Herpes labialis is a herpes simplex virus infection, which manifests itself in the lip area.

The herpes labialis is the most common manifestations of infection with the herpes simplex virus. HSV-1 is in contrast to HSV-2, the main cause of the disease, because here in about 90% of cases, herpes labialis is concluded. Approximately 40% of the population have already been through a herpes labialis disease while having up to 20% of the population a high relapse potential.
