Release of hormones in the anterior pituitary. It lies in the inferior segment of the diencephalon. The hormones FSH and LH are released there. Their secretion is initiated by the releasing hormone GnRH. FSH encourages seed maturation in male testicular Sertoli cells. LH on the other hand encourages the production of testosterone in Leydig cells in the testicle. Testosterone is the most important and typical androgen (male hormone). If there is a chronical lack of testosterone, it can lead to infertility or other impairments (such as an increased risk for osteoporosis or erectile dysfunction).
